To Munich Via Reykyavik

My nonstop flight to Munich became a one stop flight because we got diverted to Reykyavik due to the fact that one of the passengers had a medical issue and had to be deplaned. We also refueled so were on the ground in Iceland for pretty close to 2 hours. As a result, my jet lag is laggier than expected and I am hoping to make it until 8 or 8:30 prior to hitting the hay for some much needed sleep. I was about to doze off when the announcement about our diversion to Iceland was made and after that sleep did not happen. One advantage of advanced sleep deprivation due to jet lag is if I begin to sound irrational or delusional during this post, I will blame it on jet lag and I know all of you will understand, right?.............RIGHT??    Other than the flight, there is not much to report. I did treat myself to Business Class and am glad I did. The service was very good as was the food, not always something that can be said about airline food. I also saw two good movi...

Getting Close

I must be channeling either Dianne and/or Dianne’s mom because my suitcase is packed, it closes easily (there is actually more room in my suitcase 😳), I leave on Thursday, and now I am wondering, “What am I forgetting?”  I have no plan to stress about whether I have everything or not, realizing full well that I will be in Germany and will be able to purchase anything I may need for my travels. My flight is in the early afternoon so I will get a ride to BART and then take BART to SFO. When I arrive in Munich for my body it will be 12:45 in the morning. Local time in Munich will be 9:45 so I expect I will be living in the wonderful world of jet lag for awhile. The flight itself is supposed to be 11 hours and I hope to catch a few winks perhaps somewhere over Greenland or the Atlantic. I am not well known for my ability to sleep on planes although, were Dianne here, she would undoubtedly dispute the first clause in this sentence.        I have heard f...

This Is Really Happening

On the 29th of September I fly from SFO to Munich to begin my river cruise from Berlin to Amsterdam. Prior to leaving for the river cruise, I will spend time with my nephew Matt and his wife my niece Michelle and their three children in Garmisch Partenkirchen in Bavaria. There will be some sentiment on this part of the trip as Garmisch Partenkirchen is the last place in Europe that Dianne and I visited together in 2018, but I look forward to being with family in such beautiful surroundings prior to leaving for Berlin and the cruise. I have chosen a European company for this trip, CroisiEurope, because if I am traveling in Europe, why not travel with Europeans rather than Americans? At the end of the cruise, which is an 11 day cruise, I will extend in Amsterdam for two nights and then will be in The Hague for four nights before returning to San Francisco. I have been able to get tickets to the Anne Frank House and Museum in Amsterdam and will also take a walking tour of the neighborhood...
